Surprise, Indonesia Raya Played at Guns N’ Roses Concert

Rocking the stage: Axl Rose, lead vocalist of American rock band Guns N’ Roses performs at Mata Elang International Stadium, Ancol, North Jakarta on Sunday. He wooed the crowd with renditions of dozens of the band’s hits from the 1990′s. The concert was supposed to be held on Saturday at Bung Karno Sports complex but was delayed and moved to the Ancol complex due to rain damage. (JP/P.J. Leo)
Any negative speculation following the change of concert venue disappeared when Guns N’ Roses opened its show on early Sunday afternoon.

The location of the concert, which was changed by the promoter at the very last minute, moved from the Senayan outdoor stadium, Central Jakarta, to the Mata Elang International indoor (MEIS) stadium in Ancol, North Jakarta.

Performing in front of around 20,000 people, the band started the concert at 1:30 p.m., it provoked the crowd by playing well-known hits — “Welcome to the jungle”, “Mr. Brownstone/It’s So Easy”, “Estranged” and “Rocket Queen” mostly taken from the band’s seminal album, Appetite for Destruction — without even acknowledging the fans.

The audience’s reaction to the timeless tunes clearly signaled that they were familiar with the songs.

Axl Rose, the band’s legendary front man, still had plenty of charm.

Wearing a jacket, black sunglasses and a cowboy hat, Axl — with his thin mustache and shoulder-length hair looked slightly chubbier than his 1990s persona — seemed to be quite relaxed. He wooed the audience by hitting those all important higher notes when singing, albeit not as high as they were 20 years ago.

Many diehard fans recognized the score music for Arnold Schwarzenegger’s classic movie, The Terminator.

Without losing any momentum, the band followed up with one of their favorite ballads of all time, “Sweet child o’ mine”, hightening the crowd’s hysteria.

A nice, yet sympathetic, surprise came from lead guitarist, Ron “Bumblefoot”, Tall in the middle of the show. Ron, who has been in the band since the sixth album Chinese Democracy, played the melody of Indonesia’s national anthem of “Indonesia Raya” (Great Indonesia), which spurred spontaneous singing by most of the audience. Done with the anthem, Ron then played the intro of “Don’t Cry”, one of the band most anticipated ballads.

At the end of the show, Axl shouted “terima kasih Jakarta” (thank you Jakarta) and then thanked everybody for their understanding regarding the change of day and venue.

Guns N’ Roses were at its height during the 1980s to late 1990s, which was why most of the audience seemed to be at least in their early 30s. In fact, during the show, the audience responded better to the songs that featured on older albums such as Appetite for Destruction, Lies and the double album Use Your Illusion I and II.

Amel, a member of the audience acknowledged that the band was her idol during her youth and she had been a fan ever since junior high school. She praised the concert, saying that the band were amazing.

“They are awesome. The music is great and to my surprise Axl still could reach the high notes like he used to back then,” she said.

Adli, another diehard fan, gave the band high credit for the performance. However, he said, it was apparent Axl’s stamina was lower than it used to be.

“That is pretty normal for a guy who has been around for more than 20 years. They earn the credit,” he said.

Many musicians — some of them rockers like Boomerang ex vocalist Roy Jeconiah, Aziz, lead guitarist of Jamrud, Sucker Head’s vocalist Krisna J. Sadrach and celebrities like newlyweds Iko Uwais and Audy Item — watched the concert.

Governor Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, was also reported to have attended the concert. Jokowi is known as rock music aficionado.

During the band’s performance, hundreds of smart phones were seen waving in the air filming the action. The tiny lights emitting from the phone screens created a truly unique scene. JP

Guns n’ Roses Set To Make Jakarta Swoon, They Will Rock Out In Jakarta For The First Time

Guns n’ Roses Jakarta concert: (Twitter.com/gunsnroses)
Almost two decades after its peak, US rock band Guns N’ Roses is making its way to Jakarta for the first time.

Making only one stop in southeast Asia, GNR are set to invade the popular coastal town performing at the Lapangan D (D Field) Senayan, Jakarta on December 15, 2012.

This weekend, GNR will perform at Neil Young’s annual Bridge School Benefit concert, and then kick off their “Appetite For Democracy” residency at The Joint inside Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, where the band will play 12 shows between October 31 and November 24.

“Appetite For Democracy” will span the band’s biggest hits from their debut album “Appetite For Destruction” (1987) through to “Chinese Democracy” (2008). Exact details about the show are being kept under wraps but fans can expect the raw and gritty heavy metal Guns N’ Roses is known for along with a few surprise elements.
Lapangan D (D Field) Senayan
The band made the surprise announcement through its Twitter account – @gunsnroses – on Wednesday, prompting fans frenzy on social media websites.

“Do you know where we’ll be on 12/15/12? We’ll be in Jakarta BABY!” the band said on its Twitter account on Wednesday.

They also posted a poster of the Jakarta concert, which will be held on Dec. 15 in the D field in Senayan, Central Jakarta.

Indika Production, the promoter, set pre-sale ticket prices ranging from Rp 660,000 (US$68.8) to Rp 2,200,000.

Founded in 1985 in the American city of Los Angeles, Guns n’ Roses initially comprised vocalist Axl Rose, guitarists Slash and Izzy Stradlin, bass player Duff McKagan and drummer Steve Adler.

In the upcoming Jakarta concert, Axl Rose, the only original band member remaining in the group, will be performing with guitarists DJ Ashba, Richard Fortus, Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal, bass player Tommy Stinson, keyboardists Dizzy Reed and Chris Pitman.

Rolling Stones Debut New Rockumentary In London

From L-R: Members of The Rolling Stones Charlie Watts, Ronnie Wood, Keith Richards and Mick Jagger pose on the red carpet as they arrive for the premiere of "Crossfire Hurricane", a documentary about the rock group, in London's Leicester Square.
The Rolling Stones on Thursday hit the red carpet in London for the world premiere of "Crossfire Hurricane", a documentary tracing the band's half-century of sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll.

Band members Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood, Charlie Watts and former bassist Bill Wyman met dozens of fans outside the Odeon theatre in Leicester Square ahead of the screening.

Wyman said he hoped the film, named after the first line in smash hit "Jumpin' Jack Flash," highlighted the influence of guitarist Brian Jones, who died in 1969.

"I'm glad he's remembered, that's the most important thing," he said.

Looking back on the band's career, Jagger said: "It goes super fast so enjoy it while you can. It seems so that we did enjoy it while we could, it's pretty obvious."

The premiere caps a busy week for the iconic band, who confirmed on Monday they will play four gigs in Britain and the United States to mark their 50th anniversary.

Guitarist Wood revealed the band's live preparations were "up to and above par", joking that they "won't be able to stop" touring if the gigs were a success.

"I can't believe how well the band is sounding," he added.

The band play their hometown London at the 02 Arena on November 25 and 29, followed by two nights at the Newark Prudential Center in New Jersey, just outside New York, on December 13 and 15.

The live shows will be the first by Jagger, Richards, Watts and Wood for five years.
"You would think it would be boring doing the same thing over and over again but it's not," said Wood. "It's totally fresh and totally new every time we get together.

"There's a magic that comes when we get together. Individually we're kind of walking around the farm or, you know, unperturbed... but when we get together, the roof comes off."

He also hinted at a possible tour, saying: "Once this wheel is turning I don't think it will be able to stop."

The film, made by director Brett Morgen, will be shown in cinemas this month before being aired by the BBC2 later in the year. AFP

Psy Vows Topless Show if 'Gangnam Style' Tops Billboard Chart

PSY - GANGNAM STYLE
Seoul. South Korean rapper Psy finds his success with "Gangnam Style" so unreal that he wonders if he's being tricked into believing it — like Jim Carrey in "The Truman Show."

Psy who has taken the pop world by storm, topping Apple's iTunes downloads and getting 270 million YouTube views, has vowed to perform his "Gangnam Style" hit topless if it reaches number one.

The rapper who does the foot-stomping "horse dance" and goes by the name Psy, returned on Tuesday to the upmarket Seoul suburb that he put on the world music map.

"If it ranks number one in the Billboard chart, then I will perform 'Gangnam Style' topless in a place where everyone can watch," Psy told a news conference on his return from the United States. The song's at number 11 this week.

Gangnam is the most upmarket neighborhood in the South Korean capital. Known as Seoul's "Beverly Hills," its streets are lined with designer-brand shops and trendy bars and restaurants.

Psy, who sums up his style as "dress classy, dance cheesy," has became a surprise hit in the United States where he was feted on chat shows and signed a deal with Island Records.

Psy, whose real name is Park Jai-Sang, has always stuck out as an oddity compared with the svelte, well-scrubbed members of Korean girl and boy bands that have swept to fame in Asia and beyond.

After gaining recognition with a 2001 debut album, he landed in hot water several times. He says he was caught smoking marijuana and later had to repeat his mandatory military service after not taking it seriously the first time.

The 34-year-old was raised in Gangnam and went to the Berklee College of Music in the United States. He dropped out of a U.S. business school which his traditional parents hoped would prepare him for taking over the family business.

Referring to his kitschy image, he said: "Honestly, I like being 'second class'... I was born 'B' class."

His hit, released in mid-July, was intended to be fun, he said. Doing a bit of his horse-riding dance, Psy declared in English that his aim was to have "fun by music."

While he hasn't taken over the family business, his new-found fame seems to have helped it considerably.

The value of his father's technology company, D I Corp's, which is listed on the Seoul Stock Exchange, has doubled since July. Its market capitalization has surged to 113.5 billion won ($101.29 million) since he shot to fame.

Psy plans to release a new record in the United States in November.

FUI Said: 'Christians Should be Upset With Gaga'

"Lady Gaga"
The Islamic People’s Forum (FUI) — a unit of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) — said on Tuesday that Indonesian Christians should be upset with Lady Gaga, and opposed to her upcoming concert in Jakarta because she often wears Christian symbols “inappropriately.”

FUI spokesman Munarman compared the debate in Indonesia with the Philippines, where Catholic youth protested against the concert.

“Lady Gaga wore the cross on her genitals. Many of her songs are insulting to Christian beliefs. I wonder why we are the ones that are attacked when opposing her,” Munarman said.

Munarman said the Lady Gaga concert was an exploitation of people who did not understand global capitalism. “People who oppose it still have a healthy mind to reject a fool industry like this,” Munarman said. “This is clearly exploitation.”

Munarman made his statement following a meeting with the House Commission III to clarify the reasons behind the FUI’s objection toward the concert, and to urge the House to support their objections.

He said that he did not believe that the promoter, Big Daddy, would abide with the law by adjusting the concert to adhere to Indonesian culture.

“Lady Gaga refused to be regulated by the Philippines,” he said. “Lady gaga said she was not a [Filipino] and therefore did not have to comply with Philippine law. We should not believe the statements of someone who can not be trusted.”

While some hardline Islamist groups opposed the June 3 concert, the Indonesian Council of Churches said last week that the show should be allowed because it represented freedom of expression.

“Don’t teach our young generation pseudo-formality by wearing good outfits, but being bad on the inside,” Gomar Gultom, secretary general of the Indonesian Council of Churches (PGI), said responding to complaints about Lady Gaga’s wardrobe.

FPI Buys 150 Tickets to Stop Lady Gaga Concert

A photo posted to an Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) member's Facebook page shows an FPI member holding a ticket to Lady Gaga's upcoming concert in Jakarta
Hard-line group the Islamic Defenders Front has purchased 150 tickets to upcoming Lady Gaga concert, which it will use to enter the venue and stop the show, a spokesman for the group said on Monday.

“The tickets are original, the price around Rp 400,000 [each],” FPI’s Bekasi chapter chairman Murhali said on Monday as quoted by thejakartaglobe.com.

Murhali had posted on his Facebook account a picture of an FPI member, wearing a turban and sunglasses to conceal his face, holding a ticket.

The photo’s caption said, “We have gotten Lady Gaga tickets, not to watch [the concert] but for us to enter. Whatever will be will be, we’re ready for the risk.”

Murhali told detik.com that FPI was ready to stop the concert, but he stressed that FPI would not attack the audience. The only target was Lady Gaga and her crew, he said.

“Hopefully, the concert is canceled,” Murhali said. “We have sent a letter to Lady Gaga through our friends in Canada.

“We hope [the promoter] will return the money if the concert canceled.”

FPI has previously threatened to intercept Lady Gaga on her way from the airport if she dares set foot in Jakarta.

Indonesia : Gaga Brouhaha Proves That ‘hard-line groups’ Run This Country

The US pop diva Lady Gaga’s scheduled concert fiasco proves that certain hard-line groups have been successfully pushing local authorities to meet their demands, indirectly controlling the nation, a Muslim scholar says.

Rector of the Syarif Hidayatullah Islamic State University Komaruddin Hidayat told The Jakarta Post that certain groups within society had successfully influenced the government to intervene against Indonesian’s freedom of expression, adding that authorities should have protected it.

“This is a setback and a pathetic situation in which we find the public sphere where Indonesians should be able to express themselves without restraint in fact faces intervention from one community that has become a powerful force in this nation,” he said Wednesday morning.

He added that while hard-liner groups had pressured the authorities, several members of the government apparently had relented to their demands, saying that it was a “politically correct” move to do.

“This situation proves that there are fraudulent officials that have been using the hard-liner groups to further their own political interests,” he said.

Komaruddin was responding to the National Police’s refusal to issue permits to Lady Gaga’s Jakarta concert.
The Police claimed that the eccentric singer “does not resemble the country’s local culture.”

Lady Gaga is slated to perform at the Bung Karno Stadium in Senayan, Central Jakarta on June 3.
The singer, known for her pop songs such as “Poker Face” and “Bad Romance”, has sparked strong opposition from groups such as the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), Islam Defenders Front (FPI), United Development Party (PPP) and the Islamic People’s Forum (FUI).

MUI and FUI sent a letter to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono requesting him to consider rejecting the concert’s permit.

In 2007, American R&B diva Beyonce was scheduled to perform in Malaysia, a predominantly Muslim country, but the concert was cancelled because the sexy songster refused to abide by the nation’s so-called “decent” dress-code for women.

The Kuala Lumpur concert’s cancellation turned out to be Jakarta’s gain, because the diva decided to stop in the capital of the biggest Southeast Asian economy instead.

In 2012, however, it was Indonesia’s law enforcement agencies that denied issuing a permit for Gaga’s concert in Jakarta.

Komaruddin refused to comment on the changing situation but affirmed that the hard-liner groups were better off “fighting corruption practices” than disrupting Indonesians’ freedom of expression. (asa)

After Calling Indonesia “Some Random Country", Justin Bieber Says He Loves Indonesia

Following a storm of criticism after calling Indonesia “some random country", pop star Justin Bieber said on Monday that he loves Indonesia.

“One rumor I won’t stand for is saying what me and my fans have isn’t real", he tweeted on his Twitter account @justinbieber. “Indonesia I see you. I love you. I love all my fans. #fact”

He also tweeted, “You can’t break us. All the lies and rumors in the world can’t phase us. This is #family".

Bieber was heavily criticized by Indonesian fans, musicians and radio DJs, after his statement at the Supperclub in London about his new album, “Believe".

“I was in some random country,” Bieber began, as his manager Scott “Scooter” Braun, interjected: “Indonesia".

“I recorded it in a studio,” Bieber said. “Some little place. They didn’t know what they were doing".
On Saturday, Indonesian pop singer Syahrini demanded Bieber apologize to Indonesian fans.

On her Twitter account, Syahrini, who has nearly 500,000 followers, tweeted, “Justin Bieber has to apologize to Indonesian people".

Amid the criticism, a radio station in Medan, North Sumatra, decided to ban Bieber’s songs.

Frina, a radio station administrator, told the Jakarta Globe on Monday that the reason behind banning his songs was nationalism.

“We temporarily banned him until the end of April", Frina said. “We don’t know yet whether to extend it or not",

Frina said the radio station did not demand an apology as Syahrina had, but wanted to express its opinion regarding Bieber’s statement.

“However, he has posted something admitting Indonesia in his Twitter", Frina said.

His latest tweets have prompted positive reactions from Indonesian fans.

Twitter account @JbieberofIndo wrote, “I cried when I saw Justin tweeted something about Indonesia. Beliebers Indonesia Loves Justin Bieber".

Another big fan club with the Twitter account @JbeeIndonesia had a similar reaction.

“Indonesia Loves Justin Bieber. We never leave him because we are true beliebers".

Music Bambu - Minahasan Bamboo Music Orkestra

Bamboo music, in Madidir in a party-Bitung Aertembaga December 6, 1948

All week long, the fishing hamlet some 20 kilometers offshore from the North Sulawesi capital of Manado presents a vignette of island tranquility: pastel pink church steeple, a wave-lapped beach and white-washed cottages.

But on Thursday nights, the calm in Bunaken is shattered by the raucous practice sessions of the town’s 32-piece “bamboo orchestra” — six rows of men wrapped in contorted yards of bamboo and brass tubing from which they pump out volumes of “oompah” music.

There are two rows of flutes including 83-year-old Simon Lungala giving his large bamboo flute his all. Behind him are nine mouth “coronets”, a few trumpets, a drum and cymbal set, and a generously twisted gigantic bass tuba.

Conductor Zakarias Likawa leads the ensemble, waving his own instrument, which he calls a “bass clarinet”. The three-holed, conical brass contraption looks about as much like a clarinet as Zakarias (in his loud, blue batik shirt and knee-side Aqua bottle of Cap Tikus — 17 percent proof local alcohol) looks like a conventional conductor.

But close your eyes for a minute and you can almost imagine Zakarias in full tuxedo wailing away on the elegant, floor-length woodwind that is his instrument’s namesake.

At play: Faldini Salimu, 14, joins his father and other members of Bunaken’s Orkes in a weekly rehearsal. At play: Faldini Salimu, 14, joins his father and other members of Bunaken’s Orkes in a weekly rehearsal. The sonorous, thick sound of his music bespeaks a smattering of classical training, a lifetime of jazz listening and a purist connoisseurship. “We have no electric instruments in the bamboo orchestra,” Zakarias explains, “only our breath. It’s kind of like we are singing.”

Although Zakarias insists that the music is a unique and spontaneous creation of Bunaken alone, there are, in fact, numerous bamboo orchestras that go back a long way and are widely scattered throughout the Minahasa territory of Northern Sulawesi. Many of them, including the Bunaken band, source their instruments from the same two craftsmen near the legendary Minahasan heartland of Tondano.

In Tara-Tara, about 60 kilometers uphill from Manado, another bamboo orchestra claims to be playing in the music’s birthplace. According to orchestra leader Pietro Menteng, a retired elementary school teacher, the music was first brought to Northern Sulawesi in the early 1900s by a Dutch Catholic missionary, perhaps homesick for Western music.

The priest worked with local villagers to construct instruments for a full western orchestra, complete with saxophones, clarinets and an “organ”. All the instruments were built from locally sourced bamboo.

Over the past century, though, the hollow bamboo sounds of Orkes Bambu have migrated away from Western church music into a folk music specific and unique to the Minahasan lands, Pietro says. “We interpreted it to our current situation here. This is music of a mixed culture.”

Another shift local orchestras have encountered recently is the comparatively tepid reception their music receives, at least in the Minahasan lands of Tomohon and Tondano.

Pietro blames this on outmigration of Minahasans in search of higher paying jobs. “Before, our ancestors worked on the farm, planting enough [to pay] for food and clothing, but now people are always looking for more money and need to leave the village.”

Ask around the marketplace in neighboring Tomohon and answers differ. The tone just doesn’t seem to jibe anymore according to Yulius Pagamanden, a 50-year-old ojek driver. He says he listens to Orkes Bambu because it is a regional art with a strong local presence. Asked if he likes the sound though and he smiles and says, “yeah … a little bit.”

In a blue mikrolet nearby, Jeffrey Wetick is blasting tunes from Indonesian Christian crooner Rohani. He says he still plays music from Manado’s Orkes Bambu in his mikrolet from time to time but he listens to Rohani’s “Ave Maria” more often.

If Orkes Bambu music is in decline, though, you’d never know it back in Bunaken, where Zakarias insists the music is appreciated by locals young and old. A look around the Thursday evening practice is evidence.

The band is made of three boat builders, three retirees, two schoolteachers and a whole lot of fishermen. Brass flutes, cymbals and drums drown out the only remaining bamboo element of the band: the “coronet” (a mouth organ comprising bamboo tubes of different heights cradled in a larger bamboo stump). Those that play the instrument such as 14-year-old Faldini Salimu, the youngest member of the ensemble, are vocal advocates of the older instrument form.

Faldini plays his “coronet” in the row right behind the oldest member. Neighbors crowd around under umbrellas. Kids tip their heads back to take in the whole 32-man band at one sweep. Wives sit on the wraparound parapet, whispering to each other and tapping their high-heeled feet to keep in time with the songs.

It’s the regularity of the rehearsals that keeps the music alive and the village intact, Zakarias maintains. “Villagers need to gather, get instruments and practice. If this doesn’t happen, they disperse.”

Liam Gallagher and Luciano Pavarotti The Most Influential Musician of All Time

Liam Gallagher

Liam Gallagher and Luciano Pavarotti are among the favourites in a poll to decide the most influential musician of all time. The year-long Music Of The Millennium survey - backed by Channel 4, Classic FM and the HMV retail chain - will be launched on 18 January. Organisers are hoping they can involve listeners of all persuasions in the poll.

HMV senior marketing manager Comac Loughran said: "We want it to run like an election - along the lines of encouraging people to join in if they don't want the Spice Girls to get in". There will also be a series of programmes on Channel 4 in which celebrities will talk about the music which changed their lives, followed by a phone number for votes.

HMV is planning to put half a million leaflets in its stores, as well as 25 million bags which will act as vote forms. On radio, Classic FM will run a telephone poll alongside special features. As well as the traditional categories of best song, album, band and vocalist, there will also be titles for best songwriter, jazz performer, classical piece and classical composer.

National talking point

Spice Girls

But organisers are hoping the Most Influential Musician of the Millennium category will create a national talking point. Mr Loughran added: "To some people that could be the Spice Girls, but they could equally choose Bach or Caruso.

Luciano Pavarotti

"It's really saying, 'Who started the trend that made all this possible? Where did it all come from?'

"The involvement of Classic FM gives a slightly different flavour to the campaign. For Best Male Vocalist, they're going to be pushing for Pavarotti rather than Liam Gallagher." Last year HMV ran a poll in which 36,000 people voted for their favourite album of all time - but now organisers want a broader poll to cover all kinds of music.

"We've tried to segment it a bit more in the categories because there is a usually a dominance of rock and pop in these surveys. In the album survey we found The Beatles, Radiohead and The Stone Roses were at the top with lots of other perennial favourites.

"We'll be using our stores as polling stations. It's real 'state of the nation' stuff where we're going to make a social statement and see what effect music has had on people," said Mr Loughran.

LIVE Video & Lyrics - Beyonce Concert : Beyoncé Knowles song : Crazy in Love

Crazy In Love lyrics
Songwriters: Carter, Shawn Patrick; Knowles, Beyonce; Harrison, Richard; Record, Eugene;

Yes, it's so crazy right now
Most incredibly, it's ya girl, Bee
It's ya boy, young

You ready?
Uh oh, uh oh, uh oh, oh no no
Uh oh, uh oh, uh oh, oh no no
Uh oh, uh oh, uh oh, oh no no
Uh oh, uh oh, uh oh, oh no no

Yeah, history in the making
Part two, it's so crazy right now

I look and stare so deep in your eyes
I touch on you more and more every time
When you leave I'm begging you not to go
Call your name two or three times in a row

Such a funny thing for me to try to explain
How I'm feeling and my pride is the one to blame
'Cause I know I don't understand
Just how your love you're doing no one else can

Got me looking so crazy right now, your love's
Got me looking so crazy right now
(In love)
Got me looking so crazy right now, your touch
Got me looking so crazy right now
(Your touch)

Got me hoping you'll page me right now, your kiss
Got me hoping you'll save me right now
Looking so crazy in love's got me looking
Got me looking so crazy in love

Uh oh, uh oh, uh oh, oh no no
Uh oh, uh oh, uh oh, oh no no
Uh oh, uh oh, uh oh, oh no no
Uh oh, uh oh, uh oh, oh no no

When I talk to my friends so quietly
Who he think he is? Look at what you did to me
Tennis shoes, don't even need to buy a new dress
If you ain't there ain't nobody else to impress

The way that you know what I thought I knew
It's the beat that my heart skips when I'm with you
But I still don't understand
Just how the love your doing no one else can

Got me looking so crazy right now, your love's
Got me looking so crazy right now
(Oh crazy)
Got me looking so crazy right now, your touch
(You're in love)
Got me looking so crazy right now
(Love)

Got me hoping you'll page me right now, your kiss
(Hey)
Got me hoping you'll save me right now
Looking so crazy in love's got me looking
(Hey)
Got me looking so crazy in love

I'm looking so crazy in love's got me looking
Got me looking so crazy in love

Young Hov, y'all know when the flow is loco
Young B and the R O C, uh oh
Ol' G, big homie, the one and only
Stick bony but the pocket is fat like Tony, Soprano
(Oh no)

The ROC handle like Van Axel
I shake phoneys man, you can't get next to
The genuine article I do not sing though
I sling though, if anything I bling yo

A star like Ringo, roll like green Corvette
Crazy bring ya whole set
Jay Z in the range, crazy and deranged
They can't figure them out they like, hey is he insane

Yes sir, I'm cut from a different cloth
My texture is the best fur, of chinchilla
(Uh oh, uh oh, uh oh, oh no no)
Been dealing with chain smokers

But how you think I got the name Hova?
(Uh oh, uh oh, uh oh, oh no no)
I been realer the game's over
(Uh oh, uh oh, uh oh, oh no no)

Fall back young
Ever since the label changed over
(Uh oh, uh oh, uh oh, oh no no)
To platinum the game's been wrap, one

Got me looking, so crazy, my baby
I'm not myself, lately I'm foolish, I don't do this
I've been playing myself, baby I don't care
'Cause your love's got the best of me

And baby you're making a fool of me
You got me sprung and I don't care who sees
'Cause baby you got me, you got me
So crazy baby, hey

Got me looking so crazy right now
(Oh love)
Your love's got me looking so crazy right now
(Lookin' crazy)
Got me looking so crazy right now, your touch
Got me looking so crazy right now

Got me hoping you'll page me right now, your kiss
(Baby)
Got me hoping you'll save me right now
(Baby)
Looking so crazy in love's got me looking
(Whoa)
Got me looking so crazy in love
(Whoa)

Got me looking so crazy right now
Your love's got me looking so crazy right now
(Your love)
Got me looking so crazy right now, your touch
Got me looking so crazy right now
(Your touch)

Got me hoping you'll page me right now, your kiss
Got me hoping you'll save me right now
Looking so crazy in love's got me looking
Got me looking so crazy in love

"Crazy in Love" is the debut single by R&B singer-songwriter Beyoncé Knowles, featuring rapper and now-husband Jay-Z. Producer Rich Harrison, Knowles and Jay-Z wrote the song for Knowles' debut solo album, Dangerously in Love. "Crazy in Love" is an R&B love song which incorporates elements of 1970s-style funk, soul and dance-pop genres. The track features a sample from The Chi-Lites' 1970 song "Are You My Woman (Tell Me So)", used as the song's horn hook. The lyrics reference a romantic obsession that causes the protagonist to act out of character.

Columbia Records released "Crazy in Love" on May 20, 2003, as the album's lead single. Critics praised the horn sample, the guest appearance of Jay-Z, and the assertiveness with which Knowles sings the lyrics. It won three awards at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards, and its director, Jake Nava, won the Music Video Production Association award for Best R&B Video in 2004.
